Ghost Towns of Jasper County

September 1, 2026, 5:30 PM-6:30 PM

@Newton Public Library

You might not know it, but Jasper County is full of ghost towns! Ghost towns in Iowa are not necessarily deserted buildings on a dusty Main Street. They are marked by the graveyard on the gravel road. The old church sitting alone. A bend in the road by the old farmhouse.  Join Dave Baker, writer, photographer, and creator of "Iowa: The 29th State" for a presentation on these lost Iowa places and the stories behind them. Baker will show dozens of original photographs and a variety of artifacts pertaining to Jasper County history.  This program is open to the public and free to attend. Sponsored by the Newton Public Library Foundation.
