Research demonstrates that children with mental health conditions are at increased risk to develop a substance use disorder (SUD), and there is a higher prevalence of SUD in adolescents with a mental health condition versus those without a mental health condition. Anyone working with youth with mental health symptoms and conditions across clinical and community settings need to be prepared to identify and address at risk substance use and SUD. This presentation will review adverse effects associated with opioid, stimulant, and other substance use in youth and review strategies to decrease risk associated with substance use in youth
